This year marks the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicea from which the church gets her most foundational confession of faith that has shaped centuries of Christian understanding: the Nicene Creed. The early church fathers from around the known world gathered in a united voice in the fourth century to proclaim that Jesus Christ is indeed of the same being with the Father and of the same being with us who are human. 

Perhaps providentially, this year the Gregorian and Julian calendars both align for Pascha, meaning Eastern Orthodox and Western Christians will all celebrate Easter on the same day. The unity of the Nicene faith, our belief in the Trinity and the consubstantiality of Jesus Christ with both God and man is what ultimately binds the universal church together. We anticipate the Spirit's work in drawing us toward a visible, outward unity amidst all our unfortunate fragmentation.
